The Perfect Shirt
Collar
To find out your collar size, it’s best to get yourself professionally measured or use a shirt that already fits you perfectly.![]()
- Measure from the beginning of the button hole to the centre of the button to get your collar size.
- When you first try on your shirt new, you should be able to fit two fingers inside the neck when it’s fully done up.
- If your collar fits snugly when you first try on your shirt, then the collar size is too small.
- After you wash your shirt, you should be able to fit one finger inside the neck comfortably
You get 60% of the natural shrinkage after the first wash and the rest in the next two washes. After that your shirt will not shrink any further.
Body Fit
The most important thing is to get the body length right first as you can have your sleeve length altered to fit.
- It’s better to go with a sleeve that’s too long if the body length is right, as you can get the sleeve shortened.
- The choice is yours to wear a Classic Fit or a Slim Fit shirt. How fitted your shirt is, is a matter of personal preference but your shirt should always button up comfortably without any gaping at the front.
- Every brand "Slim Fit" is different and there are different degrees of slim fits. For example, our Windsor collar and Duke of York collar slim fit shirts are a more generous cut than our John Francomb Rovereto shirt which is Fully Fitted.
- Do not assume you can’t wear a Slim Fit shirt if you’re not slim
- Slim Fit doesn’t mean Fully Fitted, Slim Fit shirts are less loose fitting than a classic fit shirt.
Sleeve
- You cuff should fall just below your wrist bone, nearest to your hand.
- You should always show some shirt sleeve under the edge of your suit.

I feel like going to wash all of my shirts a couple of times, just so the collar can shrink to the proper size. Thanks for the tip!
Hi Sergiy,
I don't know if this will help, but...
...all of our collars actually start out 1/4" larger than the labeled size - so they will shrink slightly from when you first try it on.
Hi,
We are actually just about to re-launch the St James shirt! It will be in May's catalogue and online in April, it will also be available in a 16"collar and 36"sleeve.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TM.LEWIN. . . TM TO WORK, TM TO CHUCRH, TM TO WEDDINGS, TM TO INTERVIEWS, TM TO MEETINGS, TM TO FAMILY DINNERS, TM TO PARTIES, TM TO RELAX AT HOME. MY LIFE'S MADE COMPLETE BY TM LEWIN AND I AM VERY HAPPY. GOT OVER 40 SHIRTS AND THEY ARE ALL TM LEWIN, KEEP THE AMAZING DESIGNS COMING. JUST ONE VERY QUICK QUESTION DO YOU THINK ITS BEST TO KEEP THE CUFF A LIL SHORTER THAN NORMAL ON SLIM FIT SHIRTS TO ENHANCE THE SLIM-SMART LOOK ?
Perhaps have a look at our John Francomb range of shirts, they are currently the most fitted that we offer.
HELLO
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO OFFER MORE WINDSOR SLIM FIT SHIRTS IN SIZE 18/36?
REGARDS
Hi,
Keep checking the new arrivals because we add new stock regularly.
We've currently got 12 Windsor shirts online in your size.
Dan
Hi,
I think a lot of people probably have that problem. We try to get round it by offering a great variety of collar sizes and sleeve lengths. Otherwise, the answer would be to have your shirts altered - either the sleeves shortened or the body darted at the back.
Will the John Francomb range of shirt sizes be extended I wear a 16/33 but this size is not available. If I were to buy one and have the sleeves altered should I go down to a 33 sleeve or does a slimmer shirt require a slightly longer sleeve?
I have noticed that some of the shirts eg luxury or lewins 100 seem to come up different sizes in the sleeve despite the fact that they are the same type (duke of york for instance) and the label says they are same size. Is there a reason for this?
Hi,
Were you looking for a particular shirt? The John Francomb shirts are available in 16/33, perhaps the shirt you were after was out of stock at the time.
It actually isn't the case that the sleeves are different lengths, more likely is that this is due to shrinkage. All cotton will shrink slightly, so if you have washed one of your shirts more than the other - it might have shrunk to a small degree.
Hope that helps,
Dan
Hi Derrick,
You can purchase good detergents at any supermarket, I haven't found any particular one to be more effective than others.
There are also 'stain sticks' which you apply to your shirt collar before you put it in the wash, a quick Google search will yield quite a few result for these products!

Hi
Some styles of the St.james collar shirts are not produced in the 15.5 33'. They are in other sizes. How come? Why aren't they in all the stores yet especially Jermyn street? It's my local stomping ground!
Hi,
If they're not available to purchase it'll be a stock issue, as in those sizes will have sold out. Looking at the site, we currently have 13 St James shirts in the a 15.5 / 33:

Hi,
We try to refresh our stock as often as possible, the best thing to do is keep an eye on the New Arrivals section:

Hellow Srs,
What happened with your shoes catalogue? Are you still selling shoes?
Thanks,
why on site don't present table for man's shirts
for each model garment measure (chest, waist and height) according to the size collar size. It's very difficult to choose the proper size of a shirt only by collar size and length sleeve.
Hi John & Team,
I am looking for a close to the body white shirt. I currently wear the Buckingham slim fit 15 1/2 shirt, but I still find it a bit loose around the chest (38 inc) while at the same time "puffing up" around the waist (32 inc waist) in a not flatering way. Is there a model range that would work better for me? I was thinking of trying the 15 in collar shirts but I am not sure what the impact would be on the length, where it seems I could use longer length. Many thanks in advance.
It seams like there are a lot of customers who have the same problem, including me. Measurement problem! How come you don't even answer these guys on the question: Why don't you do a table with all the different collar measures, including the shoulder, chest and height and waist measures?? This would help us customers a lot and I believe that even you have interest in doing it.
I'm one of these who have problem finding the right size, and every time I send back a package from Sweden it cost me around £17. This holds people back when ordering shirts from TML
These are just some suggestions.
Good morning. I was wondering how the Luxury Slim Fit compares to the John Francomb Milan Slim Fit. The Milan Slim Fit is a near perfect fir for me - sleeves and torso length. The Roverto works when I have lost a little weight but as a casual shirt and I can't tuck it in. I am hoping that the Luxury Slim Fit is more like the Milan and has a long body and as roomy as well.
Thank you.
Hello Victor,
All our slim fit shirts are the same in size and cut so the Luxury Slim Fit will be the same (in sleeves and torso) as the John Francomb Milan Slim Fit. The Roverto is a a fully fitted shirt so will fit closer to the body.
If you want some more information check out this blog by Wayne on shirt shapes: http://community.tmlewin.co.uk/blogs/posts/shirt-shapes
I hope this helps!
