Why aren't my shirts shrinking?

Why aren't my shirts shrinking?

I've been ordering TM Lewin Shirts for a while and they arrive a little large in the neck, but usually shrink to a very nice fit after they are washed.  The past few shirts I've bought haven't shrunk in the same way.  If I wanted to shrink the shirts a little more, what should i do?  Increase the water temp?  Put them in the dryer?

Cotton has a natural tendency to shrink but our technician’s aim is to make our cotton fabrics as stable as possible and reduce the shrinkage to a minimum.  We have been improving our fabric finishes and this has reduced the amount shrinkage – which actually we were quite pleased about!

You could try washing at a high temperature and tumble drying which might help if you’d like your shirts to shrink. Hope that helps!

Eek! I hope they don't! Mine are a perfect fit "straight from the crate".

I was mine on 30 or 40 degrees and use "Vanish" for collar marks rather than turning up the heat.

I let mine air-dry on a hanger. So far they've been fine.

Fingers crossed they'll stay that way!

let me know what shirts you are ordering, my dream is to buy a shirt that only shrinks slightly and stays the same for its lifetime.

I wash on a standard 40

I bought 2 TM Lewin shirts in March 2011 (John Francomb classics fully fitted). When I tried them, they were perfect, nice fit.

I washed them once at 30 deg C (that's not even hot temperature by the way), and they shrank so much that 1) I can't even button the top button (so cannot wear to work with tie anymore – the collar became at least 2 cm shorter), 2) the arms lost became so short it is embarrassing to wear them (at least 3 cm shorter), and 3) the body became so tight I couldn't even move my arms anymore... All I can do now is give those shirts to my nephew.

What a waste of money. Trust me, I've learnt my lesson with TM Lewin shirts....

Hello,

We’d like to discuss this further with you, as we’re sorry to hear that this has happened with our shirts.

Could you email us on: ideas@tmlewin.co.uk and we’ll arrange an exchange for you?

Also, it would be great if you wouldn’t mind providing the product code from the shirt (you can find this inside the bottom front care label of the shirt) so are able to look into this further.

Regards,
John

I had pretty much exactly the same experience as the person above. I bought 4 TM Lewin shirts in January 2012 (John Francomb classics fully fitted 16in 35 sleeve). When I tried them, they were perfect, nice fit.

I also washed two of them once at 30 deg, and they shrank to the extent that 1) I can barely button the top button, 2) the arms are so short they can almost reach my elbow when i stretch them both out, and 3) the body is flat out tight and 4) because it's so tight, the shirt pulls on my back causing the collar to slide down my back raising the second to top button near my throat...

I gave the two others to the cleaners the other day and am terrified of what's going to happen.

Product code for one of the shirts is:100B/MS40/40481 0466V4
