How do I stop the tips of the collars wearing when I wash them?

The collar tips don't touch anything so they can only be wearing in the washing machine.  This means I am sending perfectly good shirts down to the charity shop because the collar tips are worn - I have tried washing them inside out and it doesn't help.  Any suggestions?

Hi,

They should not be wearing out in the washing machine, the likely causes are: they are rubbing against the shirt body when worn, or perhaps against your jacket, or the most common problem is the iron you're using - sometimes the steam holes in the soleplate can be a bit abrasive - it's definitely worth checking your iron!

How long have you had the shirts? How often do you wash them?

Thanks,

John

I don't think it can be against the shirt body as it is the upper side of the collar tip - it could be against suit jackets, are they very abrasive?  Should I have some ultra soft fabric sewn under the suit collars?  Although two of my suits are from you.   I don't think it's the iron.  As for how long, hard to tell, I've marked my latest ones on the fabric label to track the wear against time.  I have a shirt I can send you and you could compare the collar tips to the rest of the shirt, collar and cuffs look ok to me.  They get washed after every wear.

Dear John,

Are you planning on replying to my reply?

You haven't solved my problem.
