Read moreAfter many months in the planning and a great effort from the teams in Myer Melbourne and Myer Sydney we opened to the public on Thurs 2nd in Melbourne and Saturday 4th in Sydney. Having spent many hours working with both stores over the last few weeks we opened ahead of schedule and received a great reaction from our customers, with many buying several new shirts!
We would like to thank everyone for all the feedback that we’ve had so far, and we will make sure that we do everything possible to meet the demands of our customers! It goes without saying that this launch has been a major development for both T.M.Lewin and Myer. We are already planning to launch our next group of Myer stores from August, when we will be opening in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Chadstone, Chatswood, Highpoint, Doncaster and Parramatta.
Many thanks to all of you who have visited so far and we are looking forward to seeing many of you over the coming weeks.

I was initially very pleased to hear that you were coming to Australia. I have been buying your products for a number of years now, both when I was living in London and more recently since I emigrated. My last purchase was on your multibuy deal last July where I purchased 6 shirts for $36 each. I was so impressed with the quality, value and speed of service I set about trying to purchase more shirts and some suits. To my horror it seems you have dramatically increased your prices to "fit in" with the overpriced, price gouging Australian market. I would hope that you would have stuck to your original principles and stood out from the crowd but it seems that is not the case.
I also find it strange that the prices on your UK website do not correspond to the Australian site based on a simple currency conversion. I do not doubt for a minute that you will respond with some version of the cost of doing business here in Australia has forced you to reassess your cost model. I wonder like some of my other community colleagues whether the age old adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" should have been considered?
Your price capitulation is a shame, as based on my July 2011 experiences I recommended your sites to many work colleagues who all purchased at the same great value. Doubt there will be much "re-visit" as local bespoke shirt tailors are now offering 4 for $200 here in Sydney.
Good luck with your endeavours and shame about the change in policy.
Hi Simon,
It is important that we explain how we have re-aligned the prices on our Australian site, and this has occurred as a result of our decision to enter the Australian market, initially in partnership with Myer and later this year with a flagship store in Sydney with other stores to follow. Our new prices reflect the added costs of operating a business at the other end of the world, with physical stores and the infrastructure required to support them and to provide our customers with unbeatable levels of service.
We are determined to be the best value premium business wear retailer in Australia. This is why, in addition to offering free shipping on ALL purchases made on the Australian website (and no GST on orders under $1000) we will continue to offer visitors to TMLewin.com.au great deals – later this week we will have an exclusive offer for our Australian customers. However, we will not prevent you from buying products from our UK site and we will still ship this out to you in Australia.
Best,
Gerard
Many thanks for your kind reply Gerard but I wonder if you could expand on your comments for me?
Prior to your collusion with Myer you had an Australian site up and running for a year, offering great value for money. So your comments suggest that because you have decided to open onshore stores, the internet shoppers who supported you in this market prior are now being charged for that "loyalty" based on your "additional" costs.
A disappointing response which shows lack of customer focus and as other blogs have highlighted a simple desire to join the other price gougers.
As I said in my original comments, it is a shame as I was a loyal customer but no longer.
Rgds
Hi Simon,
We are very sorry about this; please don’t feel that we have abandoned our Australian customers. We are constantly looking for ways to provide deals and offers to our Australian audience. Currently, we are offering a promotion that will give you $350 off if you buy two suits with us – you will also receive a two shirts and ties if you took part in this offer due to our bundle offer. This is an Australian exclusive and we’re not offering this promotion to any other audience.
Best,
Gerard
I have to agree with Simon.
Buying from the UK TMLewin site is significantly cheaper than the Australian website.
As for Myer - I wish TM Lewin well with them. Certainly one of the worst retailers in the world.
I can't beleive anyone at TM Lewin didn't consider why we weren't buying shirts from Myer in the first place. i.e. Why were all the thousands of Australians buying from TM Lewin online and not Myer...
No service
No staff
Poor selection
Poor sizes
tmlewin.com.au should be UK prices minus VAT. Do some local advertising and you will sell ten times the shirts when compared to raising AU prices and 'selling' in Myer.
Yep - have to agree with Simon Ellis and Matt P.
As an Australian, in Australia, I have stuck with the UK TM Lewin website. The Australian website is definitely more expensive.
TM Lewin having a physical presence in Australia just increases costs and thus the Aussie website has to increase its prices.
Hi Matt and John,
Thank you for your comments. We will take your comments into consideration, but we do hope to open our own stores in Australia so you’ll be able to visit us directly if you don’t like to shop in Myer.
Best,
Gerard
